AL lawmaker and SCBA president Abdul Matin Khasru laid to rest

With love, respect and grief, people from all walks of life bade farewell to Awami League lawmaker and president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Abdul Matin Khasru today.

His coffin was kept on the SCBA premises where SC judges, former judges, lawyers, law officers, government high officials, political leaders, educationists, professionals and Matin Khasru's family members paid their last respects, said Md Mohin Miah, personal assistant to the lawmaker.

His first namaz-e-janaza was held there.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim, LGRD Minister Md Tajul Islam, judges of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the SC, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Attorney General and outgoing SCBA president AM Amin Uddin and its Secretary Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal, among others, joined the janaza and paid tribute to Matin Khasru by placing wreaths.

The chief justice suspended all functions of the Appellate and High Court Divisions for today, showing respect to the SCBA president.

Our Cumilla correspondent reports that his body was taken to Brahmanpara upazila in Cumilla and janazas were held at Burichang Ershad Degree College premises, Vagban Government Boys High School and Mirpur village.

He was buried in their family graveyard at Mirpur village, his younger brother advocate Abdul Momin Ferdouse confirmed to our local correspondent.

Thousands of people participated in his janaza. The local administration took measures so that people wear masks mandatorily and keep distance from others but it could not be maintained during the janaza.

Abdul Matin Khasru, a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court, breathed his last around 4:45pm yesterday at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka after he was diagnosed with Covid-19. He was 71.
