Abide by the law during political programmes: home minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the country's law and order situation is good and the police force is working with patriotism and bravery to maintain that situation.

He also asked the political parties of the country to follow due rules and regulations while observing political programmes.

The home minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of upazila Ansar and VDP office at Bagha in Rajshahi this morning.

"We aren't just talking about Jamaat or Shibir; we will take legal action against those who create anarchy in the country. Those who do politics should have to follow laws, rules, and regulations of the country. If they do anything beyond that, they have to be responsible".

Asaduzzaman Khan applauded the role of Ansar forces.

"Ansars are used wherever the government needs them. Every force is working very efficiently. We deployed Ansars to assist police during elections. When arson crimes occurred, some 2 lakh Ansars worked heroically. They are the ones who cooperate with the administration by performing more responsibilities in the election and puja celebrations."

Referring to Bangladesh-India relations, he said the present government has taken Bangladesh's friendly relations with India to a unique height.

"India's contribution to the Great War of Liberation is undeniable. Talks have been held with India to stop border killings. They [India] don't support such killings either."

The minister said India has requested the Bangladesh government to keep an eye on the issue of free movement in border areas. "If there is a problem at the border, a flag meeting is being held immediately. Besides, the home ministries of the two countries are working jointly to solve various problems and crises."

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammad Shahriar Alam, lawmaker Adiba Anjum Mita, Maj Gen AKM Nazmul Hasan, Director General of Ansar force were present on the occasion.

The home minister unveiled the inaugural name plaque of the newly constructed Ansar and Village Defence Party's model upazila building at Bagha and Tanore.

Later, he inaugurated a mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Rajshahi district police lines ground around 1:00pm.

He attended a reception of freedom fighters of the district and inaugurated a monthlong health camp for the freedom fighters.
