More than 500 families in three unions under Lalmonirhat's Kaliganj upazila are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr today, in line with Saudi Arabia.

Due to the coronavirus situation, Eid prayers were held in the mosque, maintaining health rules set by the government, reports our Lalmonirhat correspondent.

According to local sources, people from Tusbhandar, Sundrahabi, Kakina, Chaparhat, Chandrapur, Aminganj and Munsipara villages of Kaliganj upazila attended Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.

Every year, these families start Ramadan and celebrate Eid at the same time as Saudi Arabia.

Maulana Masum Billah, president of Eidgah at Munshipara Harishahar of Kaliganj upazila, said people of these areas have been observing various religious events including Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha, Shab-e-Qadr and Shab-e-Meraj in line with Saudi Arabia for the past few years.

Bangladesh, however, will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday as the Shawwal moon was not sighted on Wednesday evening.
