The second set of metro rail coaches reached Dhaka today, marking yet another major development in the country's first ever metro rail project.

A barge carrying two of the six coaches reached the newly-constructed jetty of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) near the metro rail depot in the capital's Diabari around 7:30pm, a DMTCL official confirmed.

Another barge carrying four coaches is expected to reach the jetty within one hour, the official told The Daily Start at 8:00pm.

The second set of coaches reached Mongla port on May 9 from Japan.

Earlier, the first set of train reached Dhaka on April 21 this year.

Bangladesh's first ever metro train was rolled out on the tracks in a test run on May 12, signaling that the country is now one step closer to fulfil its dream of having its own metro rail.

Mass Rapid Transit Line-6 or MRT-6, is being built from the capital's Uttara third phase to Motijheel at the cost of Tk 22,000 crore.
