2 children among 3 killed in gas cylinder blast in a Moheshkhali school

9 other children injured

Two children were among three people who were killed when a gas cylinder used for inflating balloons exploded in a school playground at Matarbari under Moheshkhali upazila in Cox's Bazar this morning.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Ehsan (12), Sadekul Islam Rahat (12) and the balloon vendor Mohammad Alamgir, reports our local correspondent quoting Mohammad Abdul Hai, officer-in-charge of Moheshkhali police station.

The gas cylinder exploded suddenly when vendor Alamgir was inflating balloons at Matarbari High School playground 10:30am where several stalls were installed centering a two-day long annual meeting of Azizul Ulum Madrasha, Master Mohammad Ullah, chairman of Matarbari union parishad told The Daily Star.

Two children died on the spot while vendor Alamgir died while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital, OC Abdul Hai said, adding that the nine injured children are undergoing treatment at local hospitals and CMCH.
