11 Bangladeshis return from India through Gede-Darshana border

A total of 11 Bangladeshis returned from India through the Gede-Darshana border in Chuadanga this evening.

The 11 Bangladeshis include three women and eight men. They were supposed to return on Sunday but could not due to some NOC related issue at the Bangladesh consulate in Kolkata, reports our Kushtia correspondent.

Upon reaching the Darshana check-post at the border, health screening and Covid-19 sample collection of the returnees was conducted by a medical team from the Damurhuda Upazila Health Complex, said Additional Deputy Commissioner and Monir Parveen, also the convenor of the Covid-19 Control and Prevention Committee.

Later, they were sent to Chuadanga Technical Training Centre for a 14-day mandatory quarantine, she added.

"A strict lockdown is going on in Kolkata city with no public transport available and as a result passengers had to suffer immensely while trying to collect the NOCs from the Bangladesh consulate," a passenger wishing to remain anonymous said.

The government on Sunday decided to bring back around 300 Bangladeshi citizens from India through the Darshana check-post, according to sources from the Darshana Immigration.
