Bangladesh resolute to be middle income country by 2021

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali has reaffirmed the government's determination to move faster towards Bangladesh's attaining middle income status by 2021.
He said this while addressing a seminar, “Bangladesh Beyond the Headlines”, at Committee Room 2 at the British House of Lords in London Friday evening.
In his speech, Ali highlighted Bangladesh's globally acclaimed socio-economic achievements, sound macro-economic indicators, diversification of exports, attainment of MDGs, impressive social indicators, women's empowerment, food self-sufficiency, strengthening of democratic institutions and promotion of human rights and the rule of law.
Chaired by Lord Sheikh, vice chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Bangladesh, the seminar was also attended by Lord Karan Bilimoria, Baroness Pola Uddin, EU MPs Jean Lambert and Dr Charles Tannock, members of mainstream media including BBC World Service, Al Jazeera, The Economist, Asian Voice, prominent members of British Bangladeshi Diaspora like Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury, Rashed Suhrawardy and Iqbal Ahmed.
Earlier in the morning, the foreign minister attended a breakfast meeting at the Asia House in London organised by its Business and Policy Programme and spoke on “Bangladesh Foreign Policy 2014 and Beyond”.
“Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been experiencing a booming economy and a steady growth over 6 percent on an average that have had tremendous impacts on overall socio-economic development in the country,” the minister told the British investors and businessmen at the event.
Sir Tomas Harris, vice chair of Standard Chartered Bank, lauded the high standard of the garment industries in Bangladesh.
