Bangladesh becomes UNHRC member

Bangladesh has become a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the period of 2015-17.
During an election held in New York yesterday, Bangladesh won by 149 votes to become a member, according to a foreign ministry statement.
Bangladesh has contested for the post from the Asia Pacific region, says the statement signed by Khaleda Begum, senior information officer of the ministry.
Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Qatar were the candidates for four member posts reserved for the Asia Pacific region in the election, the statement adds.
