Bangladesh Bank official dies from coronavirus

A joint director of Bangladesh Bank died of coronavirus at a hospital in Dhaka today.

The deceased -- Sheikh Farid Uddin Soad (37) -- worked at the Bangladesh Bank Training Academy in Mirpur.

Confirming his death, an official of the public relations department of Bangladesh Bank said this was the first death of a central bank official from coronavirus.

Farid was admitted to Holy Family and Red Crescent Hospital on June 12 after he testedpositive for Covid-19.

He received plasma therapy at one stage of his treatment but ultimately could not survive.

Earlier, an official of Bangladesh Bank died with coronavirus symptoms, but the test resultswere negative for Covid-19.
