Bangla Academy Sahitya Puroshkar recipients announced

The "Bangla Academy Sahitya Puroshkar 2014" was announced in seven out of ten categories at a press conference on the academy premises yesterday afternoon, ahead of the Ekushey book fair.
Journalist Shihab Sarkar won in the category of poetry, physician Zakir Talukdar in Katha Sahitya (literature), former professor of Comilla University Shantanu Kaiser in essay, former Bangla professor of Chittagong University Bhuiyan Iqbal in research, journalist Khaleque Bin Zainuddin in juvenile literature, Bangladeshi expatriate writer Mainush Sultan in the biography and travelogue category, and Prof Abu Mohammad Delwar Hossain of Dhaka University's history department for his work on the Liberation War.
The academy could not consider anyone in the categories of translation work, drama and science, and technology and environment.
The awardees will receive the prestigious prize from Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina on Sunday, at the inauguration of the book fair and the international literature festival 2015, said Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan, director general of Bangla Academy.
Each of the awardees will receive an honorarium of Tk 1 lakh, a crest and a certificate.
This year's award-giving committee had Prof Emeritus Rafiqul Islam as the chairperson, while poet Asad Chowdhury and Hayat Mahmud, Prof Syed Manzoorul Islam, and Abul Hasnat, editor of literary magazine Kali O Kalam, as its members.
