Turkish PM phones Hasina

Pledges to work together in fighting terrorism

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim yesterday expressed his country's willingness to work together with Bangladesh to curb militancy.

He was talking to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over the phone in the evening.

PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said Yildirim condemned the blasts in Sylhet and expressed sympathy for the casualties.

During the nearly 15-minute conversation, Hasina reiterated her government's “zero-tolerance” policy against terrorism and said some misguided people were defaming Islam in the name of religion.

The Bangladesh government condemned the last year's coup attempt in Turkey to overthrow the present government there, Hasina added.

She invited the Turkish premier to visit Bangladesh.

Yildirim exchanged greetings with Hasina and congratulated her on the occasion of Bangladesh's 47th Independence and National Day.
