Shamim Ahmed in his continued endeavour to help those suffering from mental distress took treatment responsibility of another woman, aged around 35.

A senior executive officer of Jamuna Bank, Shamim along with his colleague Ali Sabbir brought her to Dhaka from Manikganj and had her admitted to the National Institute of Mental Health.

Paschim Sahihi Ekota Samaj Kalyan Sangstha, a local organisation working for social cause, extended its support by providing an ambulance to bring her to the hospital from the Pukuria bus stand under Ghior upazila of Manikganj.

The woman said her name is Parul and that she used to live in Jessore.

She was living under the passengers' shed at the bus stand for the last two years, said 70-year-old farmer Mofij Uddin and 50-year-old rickshaw-van puller Sona Mia of Pukuria village.

Locals gave her food and security, they said.

Shamim said he had been informed about the mentally ill woman by a man of Manikganj named Jiku on August 2.

He, Sabbir and Dr Shamim Hossain went to the spot and talked to her on August 19. They later talked to the local administration about their plan of arranging her treatment.

Earlier, the 42-year-old banker arranged treatment of two mentally-challenged women and helped them get reunited with their families. The Daily Star ran a story titled “Selfless love for the helpless” on June 27 in this regard.

"We should do something for these people because our little effort can change their lives for the better," Shamim said.
