Seven killed as bus hits truck

Seven people were killed and 19 others injured as a bus crashed into a standing truck in Betgram area of Gopalganj Sadar yesterday evening.

Two of the deceased were identified as Yunus Khan, 45, a khadem of a mosque in the capital's Sadarghat, and Mohammad Mahi, 12, of Bagerhat's Fakirhat upazila. The identities of the others could not be known immediately. 

The accident happened on Dhaka-Khulna highway when the Dhaka-bound bus from Pirojpur hit the log-laden truck, which was standing beside the highway, around 6:30pm, said Selim Reza, officer-in-charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, quoting locals.

Seven people were killed in the accident, he said.           

Faruk Ahmed, senior resident medical officer at Gopalganj Sadar Hospital, told The Daily Star that five people were brought dead to the hospital and a baby boy died after being admitted to the hospital.

Thirteen of the injured were undergoing treatment at the hospital while four others took first aid, he added.
