Schoolgirl 'gang-raped' by friend, his cohorts
A teenage schoolgirl was gang raped by her friend and his two other acquaintances in Kalabagan area of the town on Sunday.
The three accused, aged between 16 and 18, were arrested from the same area on Monday night and sent to jail custody, police said.
The victim, a tenth grade student at a school in a village nearby, came to visit her friend in Pabna town to celebrate the New Year's Day, said Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of Pabna Sadar Police Station, quoting family members of the victim.
Her 16-year-old friend took her to his friend's house in Kalabagan area where the three teenage boys committed the crime, he added.
Two of the accused are from Char Madhpur village while the other is from Kalabagan, he said.
The victim underwent treatment at Pabna Medical College Hospital and she has been sent home after the doctors there conducted a medical examination on her, he said, adding that although the report of the examination is yet to be available, all signs and evidence indicate that it was an apparent case of rape.
Father of the girl filed a case with Pabna Police Station on Monday afternoon accusing the three arrestees.
NO ARREST IN GARO GIRL GANG RAPE CASE
Three days into the incident, police are yet to arrest any accused in the Garo school girl gang rape case in Haluaghat upazila, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.
The 13-year old victim passed JSC examination from a local high school this year. She is currently undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, said Kamrul Islam Miah, officer-in-charge of Haluaghat Police Station.
Police are conducting raids to arrest the criminals at the earliest, he said, adding that the victim's father lodged a case with the police station on Sunday mentioning two individuals named Ramzan Ali and Shafiuddin alias Gesu.
Quoting doctors at the hospital, the OC said, signs of rape were primarily found and an examination was conducted on Monday.
The police are yet to receive the test report, he added.
On her way to attend an annual performance of kirtan (devotional song) organised by local Garo community, Ramzan and Shafiuddin allegedly waylaid and raped the young girl in Gubrakura village of the upazila on the night of December 31 (Saturday).
She was initially admitted to Haluaghat Upazila Health Complex on Sunday in a critical state and she was transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital the same night as her condition deteriorated, police said.
