Schoolboy Murder: 2 more accused killed in gun battle with Rab

Two more accused in a schoolboy murder case were killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga early yesterday.

The dead are Sabuj Hossain, 23, of C&B area in Chuadanga town and Shakil Hossain, 21, of Darshana town in the district. The two were accused in the murder case of Mahfuz Alam Sajib.

With them, three of the six accused in the case have been killed in “gunfights” with Rab in the district.

Maj Monir Ahmmed, deputy director of Rab-6 in Jhenidah, said a Rab team launched a drive in Shantipara area of the upazila around 2:45am on information that a group of criminals were holding a meeting there.

Sensing the presence of Rab members, criminals opened fire on Rab men, forcing them to fire retaliatory shots. At one stage, the criminals fled the scene.

The Rab team later searched the area and found the bodies of Sabuj and Shakil. The law enforcers recovered a shooter gun, a revolver, two sharp weapons and four bullets from the spot, said Rab sources.

Earlier on September 16, another accused Rakibul Islam, a member of Alukdia Union Parishad in Chuadanga Sadar upazila, was killed in a gunfight with Rab in Gobindapur village of Damurhuda upazila.

Fifteen-year-old Sajib of Dashami village in the upazila was abducted on July 29. The following day, the abductors demanded Tk 20 lakh as ransom from his family members.

The captors later killed the boy and dumped his body in a septic tank of a house rented by Rakibul in the upazila's C&B area, said Maj Munir.

The Rab recovered the victim's body on August 30. A murder case was filed with Damurhuda Police Station on September 1, accusing six people.

Police said two of the accused were behind bars.
