Assault of Sisters: Rab picks up main suspect

The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested the main suspect in the harassment and assault of teenage twin sisters in the capital's Mirpur.

A team of Rab-4 picked up Jibon Karim Babu, 24, from Beribadh area in Mirpur around 7:00pm on Sunday, said Maj Abu Sayeed Khan, deputy director of Rab-4.

The sisters came under attack around 11:30am on October 19 when they were returning home from BCIC College on Chiriakhana Road. The 16-year-old sisters are HSC students at the college.

Babu, owner of Ahona Fast Food and Khabar Hotel in the area, severely beat up the two for protesting abusive language used by him.

Victims' father filed a case with Shah Ali Police Station on the same day, accusing Babu and some unnamed men of the attack.

The Rab official said during primary interrogation Babu admitted that he harassed and beat the girls for seeking help from students.

OC Anwar Hossain of Shah Ali Police Station said the Rab handed the arrestee over to them yesterday afternoon. Police would produce him before a court today.

Talking to The Daily Star yesterday, victims' father said his daughters were yet to resume classes as they were recovering from injuries.

He feared the two might be attacked again by Babu's associates.
