Night guard killed at Bogra New Market

Jewellery stolen from shop

A night guard was killed and a jewellery shop burglarised at New Market in Dhupchanchia municipality of Bogra some time early yesterday.

Police recovered the body of Mozahar Ali, 55, son of late Ismail Hossain of Dimshohor area, around 7:30am and sent it to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

They also recovered a gas cylinder and a bolt cutter from the crime scene. Dhupchanchia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazrul Islam suspects that Mozahar might have been strangled to death.

Locals alerted police on finding the body around 5:30am near one of the market's four gates, the locks on which had been broken. They said Mozahar usually closed the gates some time after midnight.

Owner of Maksuma Jewellers claimed that gold ornaments worth over Tk 2 lakh had been stolen and a failed attempt made at opening a safe.

The victim's son Abdus Salam filed a case accusing unidentified people.
