N'ganj 7 Murder: Nur, ex-Rab men plead not guilty

Four accused in the sensational seven-murder case in the district pleaded not guilty before a local court yesterday.

They are prime accused Nur Hossian, and sacked Rab-11 officials Lt Col Tareque Sayeed, Maj Arif Hossain and Lt Commander M Masud Rana.

Public prosecutor advocate Wajed Ali Khokon read out the allegations brought against the accused after they were produced before the court of Senior District and Session's Judge Syed Enayet Hossain.

Of the four, Nur and Tareque claimed themselves to be innocent and did not give any written statement of self-defence. However, Arif and Rana pleaded not guilty in writing.

The court fixed October 31 for the other accused to defend themselves.

On April 27, 2014, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver were abducted by criminals from Fatullah area.

At the same time, senior lawyer at the District Judge's Court Chandan Kumar Sarkar and his driver were also abducted on their way to the capital.

Three days after their abduction, bodies of six men, including those of Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered from the Shitalakhya. The following day, the body of Nazrul's car driver Jahangir was recovered from the river.
