Wari Girl Murder: Accused gives confessional statement before court

Harun Or Rashid, the lone accused in the case filed over the rape and murder of Wari schoolgirl Samia Afrin Saima, confessed that he had killed the seven-year-old girl after rape so that she cannot disclose his identity.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansary recorded his statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure after detectives produced him before the magistrate.

After recording his statement, Harun was sent to jail.

In his statement, Harun said he had been living in his cousin Parvez’s house on the 7th floor of the building in Wari where Saima’s family lived on the fifth floor.

He said he used to work at a paint shop.

While leaving the house at around 6:30pm on Friday, he saw Saima in front of the lift and took him to rooftop saying he would show her the view from there.

Taking to an empty flat on the rooftop, Harun raped and later, killed the girl.

After killing the girl, the accused went to Parvez’s house and took a shower. Minutes later, he went out of the building and left Dhaka for Cumilla around 11:00pm.

Detectives arrested Harun from Cumilla on Sunday morning.

A nursery student of Silverdale Preparatory and Girls’ High School often went to Parvez’s flat to play with his son and knew the suspect, detectives said.

On Friday, Saima left their flat telling her mother that she would return in 10 minutes. Harun met the girl in the lift and asked her to go to the roof with him.

When Saima did not return home, her family started looking for her and found her body inside the empty flat about an hour later.
