BANGABANDHU'S VISIT TO GOPALGANJ

Prime Minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman receives a warm and hearty welcome when he flies into his hometown Gopalganj today.

Addressing a public meeting at the Gopalganj Stadium, the prime minister declares that all the people are determined to foil the nefarious designs of the vested interests who are conspiring against the interests of the new nation. These people are conspiring on the eve of the elections to malign the people of Bangladesh, the country and him before the world. Their objective is to damage the prestige of the nation so that no foreign aid comes for the country's development, he adds. He calls upon the people to cooperate with the government to weed out these evil elements.

Bangabandhu tells the audience that although he told the nation that he would not be in a position to give anything for three years, still they have already given Tk 5 crore to the affected families from the prime minister's fund. In addition to the Tk 100 crore have been given as relief. He adds that a trust for the disabled and crippled freedom fighters has been formed with Tk 4 crore.

Speaking with passion and in a nostalgic mood, Bangabandhu tells the vast gathering that many momentous events of his life took place in this place since his childhood. He says that he had passed matriculation from here, went to jail here and was elected for the first time in 1954 from this area. There is no house in Gopalganj that he has not visited, he adds.
