Two more cops die from Covid-19

Two more policemen have died of Covid-19 in Bangladesh, raising the total number to 21.

In Bogura, Abdul Jalil, 55, inspector of Kurigram district police breathed his last around 1:30pm on Tuesday. He was undergoing treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

Hailing from Naogaon, the inspector left behind his wife, two sons, relatives and many well-wishers.

He was buried at his native village following standard procedures in presence of the top officials of the district police, a statement of Police Headquarters (PHQ) read.

Meanwhile, at least 6,826 police personnel have tested positive for coronavirus so far, the statement read, adding that of those officials 1,904 were from Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Of the infected personnel, 3,707 have already recovered and many rejoined their duties, said officials.

Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general of PHQ, said they had taken all the preventive measures to contain the spread of coronavirus among the force officials.

Besides, the authorities have introduced modern equipment in all police hospitals to ensure proper treatment of the infected officials, he added.

Meanwhile, Enamul Haque, 35, a constable of Birganj Police Station in Dinajpur, also died of Covid-19 early yesterday, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.

Enamul got infected on June 2 and he had been undergoing treatment at Birganj Upazila Health Complex. But on June 6, he had been shifted to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital, said Abdul Motin, officer-in-charge of Birganj Police Station.

But, as his condition started deteriorated again, he was sent to central police hospital in Dhaka. But he died in Savar on his way to the hospital, said the police official.

His burial completed at Panchagarh district following standard procedure, police said.
