Timber trader murdered in Bogura
Jubo League leader, his accomplice held
A timber trader was hacked to death allegedly by a Jubo League leader in Bogura Sadar upazila yesterday.
Victim Shahed, 35, was the son of Tozammel Hossain of Purba Ashkona village of the upazila.
Police detained Rubel, 30, president of Jubo League’s Nishindara union unit, and his associate Shanto for their alleged involvement in the murder.
The incident took place in broad daylight in Nungola Eidgah field area, police said quoting locals.
According to witnesses, Rubel and Shanto were beating up a local boy around 12:15pm with pieces of wood over a trifling matter.
As Shahed asked them not to take the pieces from his shop, the two became angry and started hacking him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured, said Rezaul Karim, inspector (investigation) of Sadar Police Station.
Locals took Shahed to TMSS Medical College where he died, the police official said.
On information, police held Rubel and Shanto from the area around 3:00pm, he said, adding that the victim’s body was sent to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College for an autopsy.
No case was filed in this connection as of 8:30pm.
