Tigers fighting to stay afloat

A change in city brought no change in Bangladesh's performance as the hosts seemed to be halfway to a humiliating series loss to an inexperienced West Indies side after the second day of the second Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

Hot favourites before the two-Test series, the Tigers went on to lose the Chattogram Test by three wickets. Lessons were not learnt from that debacle as the hosts ended the second day on 105 for four, a whopping 304 runs behind West Indies' 409 all out.

Before the four batsmen – Soumya Sarkar, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, skipper Mominul Haque and Tamim Iqbal – departed playing irresponsible shots, the bowling performance from the hosts was a lacklustre one on the second day.

Having held West Indies to 223 for five on the first day, the Tigers let the visitors score a further 186 runs for their last five wickets. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam took four, as did one pacer Abu Jayed, but they came at a cost of too many runs.

Nkrumah Bonner, Joshua De Silva and even bowler Alzarri Joseph filled their boots against a listless attack, taking the score past 400.
