Teen killed by bus in front of her mother

A female student, who passed the Secondary School Certificate examinations this year, was killed as a bus ran her over in front of her mother in the capital’s Farmgate yesterday morning.

Tanjila Akhter Hira, 16, was the daughter of Dulal Mia of West Nakhalpara, Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Police Station, told The Daily Star.

Quoting victim’s mother Saleha Begum, police said Tanjila and her mother were going to Bangla Motor. Tanjila fell while trying to get on a bus and the vehicle ran her over in front of Babul Tower around 11:00am. She died on the spot. Her mother was behind her. 

Police seized the bus and arrested its driver, said the OC.

Saleha last night filed a case against bus driver Abdul Goni with the police station, said Sub-inspector Faruk Khan, investigation officer of the case.

The police official claimed that the accident happened due to reckless driving.

Science group student Tanjila secured GPA 4.70 from the Civil Aviation School and College in Shaheen Bagh, said a victim’s relative.

Talking to this correspondent, Tanjila’s relative Hedayet Hossain said her family had been living in Nakhalpara for many years. A couple of months ago following her exams, her family moved to their village home in Chandpur’s Faridganj.

Tanjila’s father stays in the capital. He runs a grocery shop in West Nakhalpara.

Tanjila, who wanted to be a nurse, and her mother came to the capital last week to receive her mark sheets from school.
