SI of DMP sued for abduction, extortion

A sub-inspector of the capital's Kadamtoli police station, Nazmul Huda, and eight others, were sued in an abduction and extortion case yesterday.

Md Imran Hossain, owner of MST Enterprise in Kadamtoli area in the capital, filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Yeasmin Ara, Imran's lawyer Sheikh Mohammad Jakir Hossain told The Daily Star.

The eight others accused are Uzzal Hossain, Sanaul Haque, Tariqul, Alam, Jubayer, Shamim, Sajib and Rabiul.

SI Nazmul is now posted in Wari police station in the capital.

After a hearing, the magistrate took cognisance of the case, recorded the statement of the complainant and instructed the concerned deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch of police to investigate the matter and submit a report.

The case documents said, "On October 30 last year, SI Nazmul and the others accused abducted the complainant [Imran] in the capital's Shyampur Eco Park area and forcibly took the keys to his [Imran's] shop, and threatened to frame him in a drug case and an arms case. Later, the accused unlocked the complainant's shop and took away Tk 1 lakh and other essential goods."

The Daily Star failed to reach the SI for comments till the of this filing the report.
