Runaway bus runs over 2 at Bangla Motor

Three people, including a policeman, were killed and four others were injured in two road accidents in the capital's Bangla Motor area and Narayanganj yesterday.

In Bangla Motor, two pedestrians were killed and a motorcyclist was injured when a bus of Bihanga Paribahan hit them around 11:30am, said sub-inspector Aminul Islam of Shahbagh Police Station.

The deceased were Maksudur Rahman, 42, a private job holder, and Belayet, 52, a small trader.

The injured, Jakir Hossain, 45, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Police seized the bus and detained its driver Zafor Mollah, the SI said.

In primary interrogation, the driver claimed that the accident took place when he tried to hit a roadside pillar to stop the bus as its brake failed.

Police said they would verify his claim.

In Narayanganj, a police constable died and three, including two other policemen, others were injured when an auto-rickshaw carrying them was hit by a truck in Sonargaon upazila yesterday morning.

The deceased was Abdul Hannan, 55, a constable of Taltola Investigation Centre.

The injured -- assistant sub-inspector Mizan, constable Humayun and auto driver Waliullah -- were admitted to a local hospital, said Inspector Ahsan Ullah, in-charge of the investigation centre.
