Rohingya woman held while trying to get passport

Man pretending to be her father also detained in Bandarban

Officials of Bandarban Passport Office detained two people, including a Rohingya woman who was trying to obtain a Bangladeshi passport using fake documents.

Md Farid Uddin, deputy assistant director of the office, said, the detainees are Josna Akhtar, 16, an enlisted Rohingya in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya camp, and Shahid Alam, 33, who came with her pretending to be “her father”.

“We were suspicious, so we tested her fingerprints on the Rohingya database and found that she was an enlisted Rohingya of Ukhiya Rohingya camp,” he said.

“The documents showed her address to be in Bandarban’s Lama upazila. We are suspecting that Farid might be a member of any syndicate,” he added.

The two were handed over to Bandarban Sadar Police Station.
