Rape of 6th Grader: 27-yr-old suspect still at large

Police in Teknaf are looking for a 27-year-old man accused of raping a sixth-grader.

Saiful Islam of Hariakhali village was accused of raping the girl in a case filed on November 5, nearly four months after the alleged crime.

As Saiful threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the rape, she kept it a secret, said Sub-inspector Mohammad Sohel Rana of Teknaf Model Police Station.

Her parents found out about it on November 3 when they took her to a hospital to get her stomach ache examined and learnt that she was pregnant, he added.

The girl was walking alone to her uncle's house on July 10 when the suspect stopped her and forcibly took her to a nearby bush and raped her, Rana said.

Saiful then forced her to take contraceptives and threatened to kill her if she did not keep the rape a secret, the officer said.

Her mother filed the case two days after learning about the pregnancy, the SI said, adding that the accused had fled the area.

The girl's parents said Saiful's family members were trying to intimidate them into withdrawing the case.
