BANGABANDHU'S TRIBUTE TO RABINDRANATH TAGORE

On the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore's birth anniversary Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman pays glowing tribute to the great poet. He says Bangalees have proved their love for Rabindranath Tagore by sacrificing their blood. They have established the right to study Rabindranath's literature in Bangladesh by liberating the Bangalee nation from the clutches of Pakistan. This is the best tribute ever paid to Kabiguru, claims Bangabandhu.

In a message to a programme organised by Bangla Academy on the occasion of the poet's birth anniversary, the prime minister further says that Rabindranath Tagore's works have inspired Bangalees to live up to the ideals of truth, justice and self-determination. His ideas played a great role in the liberation struggle of Bangladesh, adds Bangabandhu.

BANGABANDHU'S DONATION TO RED CROSS FUND

Bangabandhu has donated Tk 10,000 to the Bangladesh Red Cross fund. This money will be used for rehabilitation of the injured freedom fighters, informs a spokesperson of the organisation. He also confirms arrival of the first shipment of food and medical aid from Hungary.

CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS CALL ON BANGABANDHU

A delegation of chartered accountants today calls on Bangabandhu at his official residence. They submit a memorandum to the prime minister seeking the government's support to overcome existing barriers to the growth of this profession in the country.

CHOLERA OUTBREAK IN KHULNA

Cholera infection has taken a serious turn in Khulna. In the last month, over a thousand people have been infected by Cholera, among which more than a hundred people have died. The government has opened two cholera wards in the affected areas.

NATIONALISATIN OF JUTE TRADING RECOMMENDED

A three-day national jute conference concludes today in Dhaka. Participants of the conference calls for nationalisation of all internal and external jute trade in the country. They urge the government to allocate fund to develop jute research and introduce specialised course on jute in the technical educational institutions. Mechanisation of jute cultivation is also recommended at the conference.
