Quader to undergo surgery today

The Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader would undergo a bypass surgery at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore today.

Cardiothoracic surgeon Dr Sivathasan Cumaraswamy, a member of the medical board treating Quader, would conduct the surgery at 10:00am [Singapore time], said Prof Abu Nasar Rizvi of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

The Minister's blood pressure and diabetes was under control and physical condition was stable, Prof Rizvi added.

Quader, also general secretary of the ruling Awami League, was admitted to BSMMU on March 3 following breathing complications but tests revealed three blockages in his coronary artery.

He was flown to Singapore the next day for treatment at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
