Only 4pc of over 1 lakh patients now in hospital

Only four percent of active Covid-19 cases are undergoing treatment at hospitals while the rest are taking treatment at home, says the Directorate General of Health Services.

Since March 8, some 2,90,360 people have been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus. Of them, 3,861 died and 1,72,615 recovered.

The country has now 1,13,884 Covid-19 patients, according to the DGHS.

In its press release yesterday, the directorate said 4,631 Covid-19 patients are being treated at hospitals across the country.

Of them, 342 are admitted to intensive care units, it said.

Meanwhile, 39 more people died from coronavirus infection in the country in 24 hours till 8:30am yesterday, the release added.

Thirty-six of them breathed their last at hospitals and three at home.

The death toll now stands at 3,861.

In the 24 hours, 13,155 samples were collected at 91 labs. Some 12,943 samples were tested and 2,401 were found positive.

The infection rate is now 18.55 percent and the death rate 1.62 percent.

Bangladesh is currently the 16th in the list of worst-affected countries in the world in terms of the number of cases.

The position is one step behind Pakistan and one step ahead of Italy, according to worldometers.info.

Meanwhile, 3,624 more Covid-19 patients recovered in the 24 hours.

The total number of recoveries has reached 1,72,615 and the recovery rate is 59.45 percent.

About 580 people were put under isolation in the 24 hours, the release added.

Of the 39 deceased, 27 were males and 12 females. So far, 3,046 males and 815 females have died from coronavirus infection in the country.

The thirty-nine victims were aged between 21 and above 60.

Dhaka division has the highest death toll -- 1,854. With 863 deaths, Chattogram stood second.
