One killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab

A suspected robber was killed in a “gunfight” with Rab at Maheshkhali upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday night.

The deceased Joynal, 30, is the son of Mafizur Rahman of the upazila.

Rab officials also arrested two men -- Shahjahan, 30, and Absar, 35 -- during the incident.

Being tipped off, a Rab-15 team went to Nonachhari area in the upazila around 9:30pm and confronted some “robbers”, said Major Rabiul Islam, deputy commander of Rab-15.

At one point, the robbers opened fire on the team forcing them to retaliate, he said.

As the gang started retreating, the Rab team held the two “robbers” from the spot. The bullet-hit body of Joyanl was found lying on the ground, he added.

The officials claimed to have recovered a gun and three bullets from the  spot.
