Two more police officials have been suspended and attached to other police units for negligence in duty over the murder of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.

The police authorities were also taking action against the superintendent of police in the district, SM Jahangir Alam. He would be removed from Feni and attached to another unit as punishment, said sources in the Police Headquarters.

There are allegations that the local police tried to make the murder look like a suicide and that they did not play their due role in arresting the accused immediately.

The two suspended police officials are Sub-Inspector Abu Yousuf and Sub-Inspector Iqbal Ahmed of Sonagazi Police Station. Their suspension order became effective on Friday, said a top PHQ official.

Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general (media and PR) at the PHQ, confirmed the development to The Daily Star.

Sohel said Yousuf was attached to the office of deputy inspector general of Khulna Range and Iqbal to Khagrachhari as per recommendations of the committee formed by the PHQ to probe the murder.

Asked, Sohel said they were also taking action against the SP as per the recommendation. The SP would be removed from Feni. Besides, departmental proceedings against him was underway, he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, the former officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Police Station Moazzem Hossain was suspended. He was attached to the office of the deputy inspector general of Rangpur Range.

The officials are facing charges of violating departmental discipline, tarnishing the image of police and behaving inappropriately, said PHQ officials.

On April 30, the committee submitted a report against the SP and three other policemen in Feni after it found that they committed negligence in duty.

The probe committee included Deputy Inspector General SM Ruhul Amin and Additional SP Mohammad Abu Suffiun of the PHQ.
