Man sent to jail for rape

A Habiganj court yesterday sent a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver to jail in a case filed in connection with raping a female spinning mill worker.

The victim lodged the case against Shahin Mia, 25, of Haria village in Madhabpur upazila, with Madhabpur Police Station on Tuesday night. 

Quoting the victim, Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge of the station, said when the 20-year-old girl was going to her workplace on Tuesday, Shahin forced her onto the three-wheeler and took her to a remote place of ​​Andiura and raped her. 

“Later, locals rescued and admitted her to Habiganj Sadar Hospital,” he said.

Zahirul Islam, investigation officer of the case, said Shahin was arrested on Tuesday night, and the victim was sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital for tests.  

She is undergoing treatment at the hospital, said Mukhlesur Rahman, duty doctor of the hospital. 

“The victim was given primary treatment. We found primary evidence of rape. We will be able to confirm the rape after medical tests,” he said.

A neighbour of the girl told The Daily Star over phone that Shahin had been stalking her for a long time.
