Man killed in 'gunfight between drug traders'

A man was killed in what police said was a “gunfight” between two groups of drug traders in Buripota village of Meherpur's Sadar upazila early yesterday.

The dead is Musaed Hossain, 38.

According to police, he was a listed drug dealer in the bordering areas of the district.

Rabiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Meherpur Sadar Police Station, said hearing gunshots, a team of police went to the spot around 3:30am and found the bullet-hit body, which could not be identified initially. 

Police also recovered a firearm and 30 bottles of Phensedyl from the spot.

Later, the body was sent to Meherpur General Hospital morgue where family members identified the victim.

“We are suspecting that Musaed was killed in a shootout took place between two groups of drug dealers,” said Mostafizur Rahman, additional superintendent of police in Meherpur.

He was accused in 16 drug cases filed with Meherpur and Mujibnagar police stations, Mostafizur added.
