Joy elected member of Rangpur AL

Sajeeb Wazed Joy has been made number 1 member of Rangpur district Awami League.

The decision was made at the triennial council of the party unit at Rangpur Town Hall on Tuesday night.

AL Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak announced that party councillors elected Joy the number 1 member of its Rangpur district unit.

In 2015, Joy was made a member of Pirganj upazila AL. He was re-elected the number 1 member of the party unit early this month. His father late MA Wazed Miah was from the upazila.

Joy had joined the ruling party’s national council as a councillor of Rangpur district AL in 2016. He has been a primary member of the party unit since 2001.

At Tuesday’s council meeting, acting president of Rangpur district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed was named as its president and incumbent General Secretary Rezaul Karim Raju as the JS.

Besides, the triennial council of Rangpur city AL re-elected its incumbent President Shafiur Rahman Shafi and incumbent General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal to their posts.

AL Joint General Secretary Nanak said the names of the four leaders were announced as per decision of the prime minister as the contenders for the four posts could not reach a consensus on picking a single candidate for each post.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader attended the councils of the Rangpur city and district units as chief guest.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, on November 15 said Joy was not interested in taking up any post of the party’s central committee.
