House Construction: Rajuk fines Shakib Khan Tk 10 lakh

Film actor Shakib Khan was fined Tk 10 lakh for constructing his house in the capital’s Niketon area violating the Rajuk-approved design.

A mobile court of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk), led by Magistrate Ashraf Hosen, imposed the fine during a drive yesterday.

Mohammad Hossain, authorised officer of Rajuk (zone 4), told The Daily Star that the court found inconsistency in the documents shown by Shakib’s brother-in-law and caretaker of the house.

The roof of the building was built in violation of the Rajuk-approved design, he said.

Contacted over phone, Shakib, who is now abroad, told The Daily Star, “I am astonished and shocked. Why have they done this? I didn’t make the design. The engineers have done this.”

He, however, said, “I respect the law. It should be equal for all.”
