‘Gunfight’ with Cops: 2 ‘narcotics dealers’ killed in Dinajpur

Two suspected drug peddlers were killed in a “gunfight” with detectives during an anti-drug raid in Dinajpur Sadar upazila early yesterday, said police. 

The dead are Rahmat Ali, 35, from Dakkhin Balubari village in Dinajpur Sadar upazila and Abul Kashem, 34, from Shipahipara village in the same upazila.

Two policemen were also injured in the incident. They are Nahid Hossain, assistant sub-inspector at the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Dinajpur, and Mahbub Alam, a constable at the same unit, said Anwar Hossain superintendent of police (SP) in Dinajpur.

They are being treated at M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur, Anwar said.

During a press conference at his office yesterday, Anwar said being tipped off that a group of narcos were gathering

in Tajpur village for drug dealing, a team of DB police raided the area around 2:00am. 

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, some 10-12 drug dealers opened fire on them, forcing them to retaliate, which eventually led to a “gunfight”, the SP said.

Rahmat and Kashem sustained bullet injuries during the incident and were taken to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur where doctors pronounced them dead.

Both were accused in multiple drug cases, said ATM Golam Rosul, officer-in-charge of DB police in Dinajpur. 

Police recovered a firearm, two bullets, 150 bottles of Phensedyl and 50 yaba pills from the spot, the OC said.
