Five raped across the country

One held, 3 including AL leader sent to jail

Police held a man in a rape case in Bogura yesterday, while three others including a local Awami League leader were sent to jail over rape allegation in Satkhira and Barishal.

In Bogura, the law enforcers detained Borhan Ali, 30, for allegedly raping his speech impaired sister-in-law, said police.

Inspector (Investigation) Rezaul Karim of Bogra Sadar Police Station said the woman visited Borhan’s house around 7:30am yesterday as they were relatives.

The accused, being alone in the house, raped her, he said.

Upon returning home, the woman shared the incident with her family members who along with others in the locality caught Borhan and handed him over to police, said Rezaul.

In Satkhira, a court yesterday sent Kamal Sana, 35, acting joint secretary of Jalapur union Awami League unit, for allegedly raping a housewife in Tala upazila.

Kamal, on Friday, went to the victim’s home while her husband was absent, and raped her, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mehedi Hasan Russel of Tala Police Station.

Later in that night, police arrested Kamal at his home following a case filed by the woman, he said.

In another incident at Ashashuni upazila in the district, two teenage boys were accused for allegedly gangraping a fifth-grader.

According to the case statement, the boys raped the girl on Thursday and previously on May 3.

The girl’s mother filed a case against the two with Ashshuni Police Station on Friday, said OC Abdus Salam of the police station, adding that the accused were on the run.

In Barishal’s Ujirpur upazila, a court on Friday sent two youths to jail for allegedly gangraping a seventh-grader.

Police arrested Nurul Islam Boyati, 20, of Agoiljhara upazila, and Tarikul Islam, 19, of Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj.

While returning home from a relative’s house on Thursday, the duo forcibly took the girl to a nearby hut and raped her multiple times, said police quoting the case statement.

The girl’s parents found her in the hut with her legs and mouth tied, said OC Shishir Kumar Pal of Ujirpur Police Station, adding that they filed a case against the duo at night.

Meanwhile in Jhenidah, a case was filed against a teenage boy for allegedly raping a seventh-grader in Shailakupa upazila.

Quoting the case statement, police said the boy forcibly took the victim who was going to a relative’s house, to a banana orchard around 8:30pm on Friday.

After raping the girl, the alleged fled the scene leaving her unconscious. The girl’s family members found her about an hour later from the spot.

The girl’s father filed a rape case against the boy who is currently on the run, said Bazlur Rahman, OC of Shailakupa Police Station.
