Father, son found dead at home

A man and his intellectually challenged son were found dead at their home in Gazipur’s Tongi early yesterday.

The dead are Abdul Halim, 32, a street vendor, and his son Noman, 8.

Abdul’s wife Isnahar Begum told police that her husband first strangled their son to death and then died by suicide. She said the family had been struggling financially for long.

Police, however, said the circumstances surrounding the deaths appeared to be suspicious. Md Kamal Hossain, OC of Tongi (east) police station, said the cause of the deaths would be known after autopsy.

Hailing from Narsingdi’s Belabo upazila, Abdul lived with his family on the fourth floor of a house in Bostapotti area.

Isnahar told police that Abdul killed Noman and then died by suicide around 2:00am yesterday. Neighbours rushed there hearing her screams and found Noman’s body lying on the ground and Abdur’s body hanging by the window grilles, said Sub-inspector Md Mesbah Uddin of the police station.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College for autopsy, he said.

A case was filed over the incident, but no one was arrested till last night.

The OC said they were investigating.
