Falling tree kills woman in city

A woman was killed and at least seven others were injured when a tree fell on them near Bangladesh Shishu Academy last night.

They were all returning home from the Amar Ekushey Book Fair.

Mitu Ghosh, 27, was on a rickshaw with her fiancé Dhananjoy Das around 9:15pm when the coconut tree collapsed on them, leaving her critically injured, said Abul Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station.

Doctors pronounced her dead when taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the OC said, adding that the other injured, including Dhananjoy, were receiving treatment at the hospital.
