Education must reflect people’s aspiration

BANGABANDHU INAUGURATES EDUCATION COMMISSION MEETING

Prime Minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman asks the Education Commission today to expedite its recommendations keeping in view the requirements of the present as well as future generations. Inaugurating the first meeting of the Education Commission at the Gono Bhaban, the prime minister says that the recommendations must reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people, particularly the younger generation of the country. It must cater to the vocational and agricultural needs of the country. The new education system would eradicate illiteracy and prevent the increasing birth rate in the country so that the benefits of economic development are not eaten up by the population explosion, Bangabandhu adds.

TOURISM CORPORATION WILL BE SET UP

The government has decided to set up a corporation for promotion of tourism in the country. The corporation will be known as the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation. The decision is taken at a meeting of the cabinet at the Gono Bhaban today. Presided over by Bangabandhu, the meeting last three and a half hours.

The cabinet considers certain measures for permanent protection of those towns and villages which are subjected to floods and erosion. The areas that will be brought under comprehensive schemes for protection against floods and erosion include Chandpur, Sirajganj, Rajshahi, Dewanganj, Kurigram and Kumarkhali.

BARTER DEALS WITH SOCIALIST COUNTRIES BY YEAR END

The government of Bangladesh will enter into fresh barter deals with the socialist countries of East Europe before the end of the current year. The duration of the agreement for barter deals as it was signed after the liberation of Bangladesh with the East European socialist countries such as Poland, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Romania and the USSR will mostly expire between the month of December and January next year. A high-level trade delegation of the Bangladesh government would visit the capitals of the East European countries towards the end of October. The delegation would review the current barter deal and study the feasibilities of further development of export and import between those countries and Bangladesh.
