Covid cases lower in Dec than in the past month

Though the number of daily tests increased, a fall in the total number of coronavirus cases was seen in December compared to the previous month.

In December, 4, 54,897 tests were done and 48,578 of them were Covid-19 positive.

Some 4,36,439 tests were carried out in November and 57,248 of those were positive.

With the arrival of winter, Covid-19 positive cases started going up in the country.

However, the death toll from the virus rose last month.

In November, the death toll was 721, while the figure was 915 last month, according to the daily reports of Directorate General of Health Services.

Alongside the drop in the number of total cases, the number of recoveries was also higher in December than in November.

Over 76,000 people recovered last month, up from 56,566 in November.

Meanwhile, 17 more people died from Covid-19 in 24 hours ending 8:00am yesterday, according to a DGHS press release.

The total number of deaths was 7,576 and the death rate 1.47 percent.

At least 990 new infections were recorded in the meantime, taking the total number of people infected people to 5,14,500.

The current positivity rate is 8.18 percent, while the total positivity rate stands at 15.88 percent.

Some 12,103 samples were tested across the country during the same 24-hour period.

At least 1,197 Covid-19 patients recovered during this period.

The total number of recoveries stood at 4,58,656 and the recovery rate at 89.15 percent.

Of the 17 deceased, 10 were men and seven women.

One of them was aged between 41 and 50, four were aged between 51 and 60, and 12 were above 60 years old, the release said.
