Covid-19: Death toll passes 4,000

The country's death toll from novel coronavirus has crossed the 4,000-mark as the health directorate reported 45 more deaths in 24 hours till 8:30am yesterday.

The total number of deaths now stands at 4,028 with a death rate of 1.34 percent of all confirmed cases.

In the same 24-hour period, 2,545 more people tested positive for Covid-19 among 14,153 tested. The infection rate for the period was 17.98, the lowest for a 24-hour period in more than last one and a half months.

With this, the country's total number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases rose to 299,628. The infection rate is over 20 percent for all tests carried out so far since January 21.

With the recovery of 3,881 more patients in 24 hours till 8:30am yesterday, the recovery rate went up to 62.33 percent.

Among the latest deceased, 32 were males and 13 females. All but one of them died at hospitals.

One of the dead was aged between 21 and 30, one between 31 and 40, six were between 41 and 50, 10 between 51 and 60 and the rest were aged over 60.

According to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), Bangladesh crossed the figure of 100 confirmed cases on April 6, 1,000 cases on April 14, 10,000 cases on May 3, 50,000 cases on June 1, one lakh cases on June 18, 1.5 lakh cases on July 1 and 200,000 confirmed cases on July 17.
