Court halts JCD council

A Dhaka court yesterday issued an ad-interim injunction on holding the council of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the pro-BNP student body, scheduled for tomorrow.

Judge Nusrat Sahara Bithi of the fourth assistant judge’s court of Dhaka passed the order after Md Aman Ullah Aman, a former assistant religious affairs secretary of JCD, filed a case seeking a permanent injunction on the holding the council.

In his complaint, Aman said he had earlier purchased a nomination form for contesting the post of JCD president but the council commission cancelled his nomination paper without any reasonable ground.

After hearing the case, the court also asked BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Almagir and nine others who cancelled the nomination of Aman to appear before it and submit a written objection to the injunction order within the next seven days, lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukder, a pro-BNP lawyer, told The Daily Star.
