Couple confesses involvement in killing 30 yrs ago
A couple yesterday confessed to their involvement in the murder of a woman 30 years ago.
Dr Hasan and his wife Shahin Chowdhury gave their statements before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain.
Rafiqul Islam, inspector at Police Bureau of Investigation, placed the couple before the court in connection with the murder of Sagira Morshed Salam.
They were arrested on Tuesday.
On July 25, 1989, 34-year-old Sagira was shot dead while going to Viqarunnisa Noon School on road to pick up her daughter Saharat.
Sagira’s husband Abdus Salam Chowdhury filed a case accusing unnamed people with Ramna Police Station on the same day. But trial of the case had been stayed for the last 28 years following a High Court order.
On June 26 this year, the High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman lifted the stay and cleared the way for the lower court to resume the proceedings.
