Booters bring joy to sports lovers

It was not all doom and gloom for the country’s sports fraternity even though the highly anticipated Bangladesh-Sri Lanka ICC World Cup match in Bristol was washed out due to rain. This is thanks to the national football team, who achieved something significant in the evening at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.

With a goalless draw against Laos in their second leg match of the pre-qualifiers, Bangladesh rode their 1-0 away advantage to a place in the group stages of the qualifying campaign for the 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup.

It would have been a much better outcome for the home side had they not spoiled few good chances and their performance was also not all that praiseworthy but this draw was good enough for the men in red and green to ensure a host of matches against some of the stronger teams in Asia.

So, Jamie Day’s charges had reason enough to celebrate the success.
