Bodies of five more passengers, including three of a family, who drowned in the Rajshahi boat capsize on Friday were recovered yesterday, raising the death toll to six.

The deceased were identified as Md Shahin, 48, his wife Moni Begum, 35, their seven-year-old daughter Roshni, Md Ratan, 26, and Eklas Uddin, 22, said Abu Aslam, additional district magistrate in Rajshahi.

Three people were still missing till filing of the report last night as rescue attempts were ongoing.

Hundreds of friends and family members of the missing passengers gathered at the city's Sreerampur river ghat in the early morning as the rescuers brought the bodies on shore.

The district administration opened a coordination centre at the ghat as four units of police, fire service, BIWTA and BGB are scouring the river for the missing bodies.

The tragic incident took place when two engine boats carrying a bridal party sank in the Padma on Friday evening.

Aslam, who is also leading the six-member committee formed to investigate the incident, said overloading and bad weather are to blame for the accident.
