BANGABANDHU AND INDIRA TO MEET ON SEPT 14

The world situation in general and development in the Indian subcontinent in particular will be reviewed by Bangladesh Prime Minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at a summit at New Delhi on September 14.

The prime minister of Bangladesh will make a brief stopover at Delhi on his way back home and make himself available for the meeting with the Indian premier.

It is believed that the two leaders will examine in detail the development in the subcontinent against the background of the Chinese veto at the Security Council against Bangladesh, and Pakistani hypocrisy.

Meanwhile Bangabandhu continues to make steady progress in his recovery in Geneva and preparations are afoot for his return home.

This morning, the British ambassador to the UN European Headquarters calls on Bangabandhu at his hotel.

TK 118 CR. FOREIGN EXCHANGE EARNINGS IN 7 MONTHS

The foreign exchange earning of Bangladesh during the first seven and a half months after liberation has been estimated at Tk 118 crore from exports. The highest earning came from jute and jute goods. The total foreign exchange earnings from jute and jute goods till July last beginning from December 16, 1971 was 110.54 crore.

$100MN IDA LOAN SOON

The World Bank is likely to soon finalise IDA loan to Bangladesh totaling 100 million dollars for 11 major  projects in the country. The proposed loan will be the first major commitment of the World Bank to this republic.

20 PERCENT ABANDONED HOUSES SECURED

The government has secured possession of only 15 to 20 percent of over 5,000 abandoned houses in Dhaka city. The sources say that the possession of houses could not be secured by the government due to the adoption of lengthy and cumbersome process by the district authority.
