Bangabandhu holds talks with ministers

DRAFT CONSTITUTION, FOOD DISCUSSED

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman meets members of his Cabinet informally at the Gono Bhaban today. The proposed constitution of the country, fixation of date for election, food and other vital issues are learnt to have featured in discussions of the meeting. Earlier, Bangabandhu had an exclusive meeting with Syed Nazrul Islam, who was acting prime minister during Bangabandhu's absence from the country for treatment abroad. He also had separate meetings with the foreign minister and finance minister.

GOVT TO TAKE OVER 1,509 RURAL PRIMARY SCHOOLS THIS YEAR

Government is taking over 1,509 privately managed primary schools run by public donations within the current fiscal year. Education Minister Prof Yusuf Ali says today that these schools are in rural villages outside municipal areas. The decision to take over these institutions by the government is for their expansion and better management.

NO SHORTAGE OF KEROSENE

The government has issued stern warning to unscrupulous traders against artificial price hikes of kerosene oil and has advised people not to pay more than the fixed price. A press note issued today emphatically states that there is absolutely no shortage in supply that would warrant a price hike. This is the result of the profit-mongering motive of a section of dealers and the government would take stern action against them, the press note cautions.

40,000 TONNES OF AUSTRALIAN WHEAT FOR BANGLADESH

The World Food Programme is arranging to ship 40,000 tonnes of wheat to Bangladesh from Australia after a request from the United Nations Relief Organisation in Dhaka. The World Food Programme will pay the freight on the wheat.
